Was seen that in many cases vital signs were not documented in the patients' charts, and when they were, temperatures higher than 37.7 degrees C were noted in 7 percent of patients, 15 percent had a temperature of 37.2 to 37.7 degrees C, and 8 percent had a heart rate of 100 beats per minute or more. It was also seen that more of half of the patients had a duration of illness longer than seven days, and one half of the patients had significant chronic comorbidities. 83 percent of the patients from this study received antibiotics, and the antibiotic prescription rates did not vary in patients with or without comorbidities. Chronic bronchitis, an ailment that is more severe, is a persistent irritation or inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes, frequently due to smoking. Chronic bronchitis is among the conditions included in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute Bronchitis With the most common organism being Mycoplasma pneumoniae just a small piece of acute bronchitis diseases are caused by nonviral agents. Study findings indicate that Chlamydia pneumoniae may be another nonviral cause of acute bronchitis. The obstructive symptoms of acute bronchitis, as determined by spirometric studies, are very similar to those of moderate asthma. In one study. Forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV), mean forced expiratory flow during the middle of forced vital capacity (FEF) and peak flow values fell to less than 80 percent of the predicted values in almost 60 percent of patients during episodes of acute bronchitis. Recent epidemiologic findings of serologic evidence of C. pneumoniae infection in adults with new-onset asthma indicate that untreated chlamydial infections may have a role in the transition from the intense inflammation of bronchitis to the chronic inflammatory changes of asthma. Patients with acute bronchitis have a viral respiratory infection with passing inflammatory changes that create symptoms and sputum of airway obstruction. Signs of airway obstruction that is reversible even when not infected Symptoms worse during the work week but tend to improve during weekends, holidays and vacations Persistent cough with sputum production on a daily basis folklore with regards to fruit therapy months Upper airway inflammation and no signs of bronchial wheezing Evidence of infiltrate on the chest radiograph Signs of increased interstitial or alveolar fluid on the chest radiograph Typically related to a precipitating event, such as smoke inhalation Evidence of reversible airway obstruction even when not infected Symptoms worse during the work week but tend to improve during weekends, holidays and vacations Chronic cough with sputum production on a daily basis for a minimum of three months Upper airway inflammation and no signs of bronchial wheezing Signs of infiltrate on the chest radiograph Signs of increased interstitial or alveolar fluid on the chest radiograph Typically related to a precipitating event, including smoke inhalation Asthma and allergic bronchospastic disorders, for example allergic aspergillosis or bronchospasm as a result of other environmental and occupational exposures, can mimic the productive cough of acute bronchitis.

Degrees Fahrenheit, a respiration rate of more than 23 per minute, a pulse greater than 99 beats per minute or strange chest findings on physical examination may indicate pneumonia rather than acute bronchitis. According to a study published in June 2011 in "Clinical Signs," symptoms of acute bronchitis last for an average of 11 days, but the cough may persist for as long as 3 weeks. Twenty percent of individuals treated without antibiotics return within a month of their first visit to the physician with constant or worsening symptoms. Light cases may be treated with the exact same antibiotics as acute bronchitis.

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the lining of your bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from your lungs. Bronchitis may be either long-term or acute. Chronic bronchitis is one of the conditions contained in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Lower Respiratory Tract Infection
Lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI), while often used as a synonym for pneumonia, may also be placed on other kinds of disease including lung abscess and acute bronchitis. Antibiotics are the first line treatment for pneumonia; however, they're ineffective or indicated for viral or parasitic diseases. Acute bronchitis can be defined as acute bacterial or viral illness of the larger airways in healthy patients with no history of persistent disease. Treatment of acute bronchitis with antibiotics is common but controversial as their use has just average advantage weighted against potential side effects (nausea and vomiting), increased resistance, and price of treatment in a self-limiting illness. Antibiotics can be given to patients with acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, while acute bronchitis frequently does not need antibiotic treatment. :o.

Respiratory Tract Infections
Children have a tendency to get more upper RTIs than adults because they haven't built up immunity (resistance) to the many viruses that can cause these illnesses. A cough is the most common symptom of an upper RTI. As with upper RTIs, the primary symptom of a lower RTI is a cough. The symptoms of an upper RTI typically pass within a couple of weeks.
